After a year of waiting, ISIS says no

11 07 2013

A while ago we heard that the Scientific Committee of ISIS had, after nearly a year of waiting, voted to let Heather and I reanalyse a giant database on parrot hatchings and deaths that some colleagues at UNM had collated. We wanted to control for year of entry properly, and also calculate median survivorship since the previously published values were somewhat suspect. But then their Board (which consists of paranoid zoo directors) suddenly voted us down. They are simply terrified of welfare research. It was very upsetting — and confirms once again how SO much nicer it is working with mink farmers than zoo people (strange but true).
