Not again!

Such a lovely MS, but apparently hard to place.

Next options: PLOS One (still high impact, despite a recent fall, but I’d need to muster up the $1700 publication fee; time to start busking?) or AABS (lower impact, but free and decent enough).

Artistic mink nests

27 04 2014

Presentation1For Chapter 4 of her thesis (on maternal care), Maria needed a figure to illustrate her nest-scoring scheme, and had the inspired idea of asking her artistic friend  Iñigo for an illustration.

Here is what he did: not your average boring science figure, that’s for sure!

Uncooperative … or misunderstood?

23 04 2014

Great find on cat research from Becky (who visited from BC last week to have a nice lunch with everyone at the Delta, and hear a mink talk by OMAFRA’s Brian Tapscott).

Reading this article makes me wonder what idiot would ever take a cat to a lab and expect them to be OK? They need to be tested at home, and the reinforcer needs to be boxes.

My little known early career

17 04 2014

Last week I went to a workshop on the “eCV”, the new electronic CV the university is making us have for P & T etc.

OAC was an early guineapig for this, and so those of us who volunteered had our CVs typed in a while ago by undergraduates. We thought this would be a good thing and save us time. However, the results – now available to us  – are shockingly useless.  For example, I was apparently guest-lecturing in the UK, US and Ecuador when my mother was 4…
