“I don’t think it’s fair”

8 10 2014

Real conversation after class today, as I was putting away my laptop:

Student: “I don’t think it’s fair that we have to read at least 16 papers for our essay”

Me: (confused): “Er, what?”

Student: “You want us to find six papers for our annotated bibliography, but then we have to find another ten for our essay. That just seems unfair and like too much work”

Me (too tired to be tactful): “Well I’m trying to get you to write a good scientific review. You could only use six papers, but then your review would be crappy. I’m just trying to help you here”.

Student (suddenly completely cheerful): “Oh!! OK!”

So bizarre I may actually have dreamed it.
