Being stroked is good for cats

1 01 2015

Just stumbled across this new paper, ‘Effect of gentle stroking and vocalization on behaviour, mucosal immunity and upper respiratory disease in anxious shelter cats‘.

Not read the whole thing yet, but it looks like a nice complement to recent papers on petting dogsgrooming mice, and an ancient study on head-rubs as a feline reinforcer (N.B. now that I look, I also see that other research – which I totally missed when it came out- actually suggests that not all cats like being stroked…., but I wonder if this work just over-interprets cortisol?)
