Congratulations Jamie!

Last May I got an email from Joe Garner in Stanford that ended:

He had won NIH funding to improve the assessment of pain in animals (especially rats), so that fewer would be wasted in analgesia research because of invalid methods of assessment.

The OE3C had just begun, and I pretty much sprinted to the reception to say “Jamie Jamie, you’ve got to work with Joe!”.  I knew that Jamie would be perfect for this; that Joe would be a brilliant mentor (even leaving aside that he’s Jamie’s academic big brother, having been my first ever PhD student about 100 years ago); and that the two of them would be an incredible team.

So, Jamie did win the two-year postdoctoral position! In fact his move has been on the cards for a while now, but suddenly it’s very close and very real: he’s due to start at the beginning of February.  And since it’s minus 13 right now, this really does seem the perfect time to uproot to California…
