Cortisol metabolite extracts ready to go

3 05 2017

Maria is busy juggling her new “enriched mink mums” project, “brain data” analyses for SONA, and some crucial last remnants of the cage size project (hmm, maybe a bit too much juggling for comfort: she is emigrating in three weeks after all…).

But here are tubes of cortisol metabolites that’s she’s been carefully extracting from faeces using a technique created by Rupert Palme, so that a hygienic dried crust of steroid residue forms within each tube, all ready to be safely posted to Austria for him to assay.  These samples are from our “floor area animals”: male and female mink raised with different amounts of space thanks to being housed in either Canadian or European sized cages.
